Trice at Forty

A celebration of abundance and belonging.

What a gift it is to share this life with you

I've crossed oceans, followed improbable dreams, begun again more times than I anticipated, and been several versions of myself along the way. Some reinventions were deliberate and others arrived without the courtesy of asking whether I was ready.

There have been extraordinary adventures, a few spectacular detours, and more grace than I could possibly account for. But as I look toward forty, I find myself thinking less about the distance and heights I've traveled, and more about the people who have made the journey feel like a life abundantly lived.

You are among those people. You have prayed for me, challenged my certainties, celebrated my victories, held me through difficult seasons, and laughed with me. Some of you have known me through many chapters, and others arrived somewhere in the middle and made yourselves wonderfully at home. What an extraordinary privilege it is to be known in so all the seasons of my life, and loved without being asked to remain the same.

So, we're going to Tulum.

For four days, I want us to enjoy the extravagance of one another's company, uninterrupted. We'll probably eat more than we should, spend our days in and on the water, follow our curiosity beyond the hacienda walls across Tulum and beyond, and have the sort of conversations that begin over dinner and refuse to end at a reasonable hour. I fully intend for us to dance until our feet hurt, laugh until we cry, and make memories that last us a lifetime.

Some moments are scheduled to the minute, and others we’ll make up as we go along.

I once wrote that “I live for the freedom to dance in the streets, alive, unbothered, and cherished” in my poem, “I Live, Again”. Forty feels like an excellent occasion to do precisely that, surrounded by people who have made those freedoms possible.

The greatest abundance isn't everything we manage to gather along the way, but the people whose love gives us room to become, again and again and again. And with that room, comes a depth of belonging words fail to adequately describe.

I cannot imagine a more meaningful way to welcome this next decade than in your company. Come ready to celebrate, rest, laugh, and make a few more beautiful memories together.

With all my love,
Trice
