Golden. Easy. A Little Undone.

I've always loved the ritual of getting dressed and the occasion worthy of something fabulous. But I love just as much the freedom of bare feet and and clothes designed for an afternoon with absolutely nowhere to be.

There is no uniform for this trip, and no expectation that anyone purchase anything. Bring the things you love wearing, the pieces that make you feel beautiful/handsome, comfortable, and unmistakably yourself. If there's something extravagant you've been waiting for an excuse to wear, I would be delighted to provide one.

We'll have mornings by the pool, afternoons wandering through Tulum, linen catching the breeze, gold against sun-warmed skin, and evenings when getting dressed is half the fun. More than anything, I want to look around and see everyone feeling loved and enjoying themselves, whether dressed to the nines or happily barefoot with a drink in hand.

Dressing for Our Moments

Under the Sun

For café mornings, casual lunches, shopping, and whatever adventures happen between breakfast and sunset. Wear things that can survive a little heat, a little wandering, and unexpected afternoon plans.

01

In the Water

I intend to get in the water, be it the pool, beach at a beach club, or a dive off the yacht. Bring at least two swimsuits you genuinely enjoy wearing, a cover-up or two, and sandals that can get wet.

02

On the Water

Sailing is part of our time together. Bring a swimsuit you love, a cover-up that can withstand a little wind, comfortable flat sandals, sunglasses, and a secure hat. A waterproof pouch for your phone, a light layer, and a change of clothes will make the day more comfortable.

03

Out in Tulum & Beyond

Should curiosity lead you toward ancient ruins, cenotes, galleries, shops, or an afternoon of exploring, bring comfortable walking shoes or sneakers, breathable clothes, a hat, and a small bag that leaves your hands free.

04

At the Hacienda

There will be mornings when nobody needs anything more elaborate than coffee, a good book, and the nearest comfortable chair. Pack a few easy pieces for meals at home and lounging.

05

After Dark

If the spirit strikes, we may find ourselves chasing good music or a dance floor. Plan for a little mischief with a look that can make the transition from dinner to a night out.

06

The Birthday Dinner:
Gold

I rarely feel entitled to make a wardrobe request of the people I love. Okay, perhaps I've made a recommendation here and there. But turning forty strikes me as an excellent occasion to make an exception.

Gold has always been my favorite color. So, for my birthday dinner, I'm asking you to indulge me and interpret it however your imagination sees fit. A beautiful gold dress or shirt, gold embellishments on a favorite outfit, gold shoes or shoelaces, a magnificent piece of jewelry, a gold scarf, or a full gold ensemble that isn't the least bit shy.

A little gold or a lot, there's no competition. I simply want us all to bring some of it into the room.

In the words of Goldmember, “I love goooooold!”

February In Tulum

February is one of the best times to be in Tulum, with warm days, cool evenings, and plenty of opportunity to be outside. Expect sunshine, some humidity, and the possibility of a passing shower. The sea is generally warm enough for swimming, although the breeze can feel cooler when we're out on the boat.

Bring clothes that breathe, sun protection you'll actually use, a light layer for the evenings, and shoes that can handle more than the walk from your bedroom to dinner.

Historic February Weather

Before You Pack Your Suitcase

A few essentials:

  • Daytime looks: Lightweight outfits for warm days, lunches, and lounging

  • Swimwear: At least two swimsuits or swim trunks, plus a cover-up or easy shirt

  • Walking shoes: Comfortable sneakers or sandals for excursions and exploring

  • Water-friendly shoes: Sandals you won't mind getting wet

  • Evening looks: One or two outfits for dinners and the possibility of nightlife

  • Birthday dinner: Something gold, whether it's the entire look, one clothing item or shoe, an accessory, or a piece of jewelry

  • Sun protection: Sunglasses, SPF, and a hat

  • The practical bits: Insect repellent, toiletries, personal medications, chargers, and a light layer for cooler evenings

  • Travel essentials: Passport, travel documents, and anything you need in your carry-on

And perhaps leave a little room in your suitcase for something you didn't know you needed until you found it in Tulum.
