A House to Call Ours
For four nights, Hacienda 21 will be ours.
I wanted a house rather than a hotel. Somewhere mornings might begin with breakfast in the courtyard, where we can find one another by the pool, gather in the kitchen over charcuterie and cocktails, and let the evening unfold without anyone having to announce when it's time to leave.
I dreamt of a place beautiful enough to feel like an occasion, and comfortable enough for us to forget we're doing anything out of the ordinary.
I found our home tucked into La Veleta, near Tulum's Holistika neighborhood. Our hacienda gives us the pleasure of a private retreat without taking us too far from the life of the town.
Stone, wood, water, and tropical greenery shape the house, with Tulum's cafés and restaurants close enough for a little wandering.
Gathering and Retreat
(Room for Both)
I've always loved spaces that understand the difference between solitude and loneliness, and that make room for both gathering and retreat.
At the heart of the hacienda is a long swimming pool and a courtyard that invites us toward one another. There's an open-air kitchen, places to lounge, a fire pit, and spaces for yoga and exercise.
And, knowing me, there are places to disappear for a while. Even among the people we love most, the freedom to take moments alone is one of the greatest forms of hospitality.
A Room of Your Own
Every guest deserves a place to retreat to at the end of the day.
Each room has its own private entrance, ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, and private outdoor space.
The most interesting conversations take place over food that makes you close your eyes, drinks that look as beautiful as they taste, and tables that have long been cleared with no one particularly interested in checking the time.
Breakfast will be waiting for us every morning at the hacienda, along with selected lunches and dinners throughout our stay.
The kitchen will be stocked with easy meals to prepare, snacks, water, and beverages, and we’ll also discover restaurants, cafes, or simply see where our appetite takes us.
